A Cheery Winter Tea

WELCOME THROUGH MY RED DOOR!

After last year’s winter, I have not looked forward to this winter at all.  So as I was taking Christmas down, early one Sunday morning I had this urge to lighten it up a bit.

I was also making scones at the same time so naturally it was time for tea.

I recently found these tea cups and dessert plates at Home Goods and fell in love with them.  They had to come home with me!  And they were just the ticket to how I was feeling this particular morning.

I am finally learning in my older age to start enjoying my favorite things,

20110114_121

rather than just saving them for company.  I’m realizing I can pamper myself without feeling overly indulgent.

20110114_118

So I decided to create a tablescape for four and  I sat down and had a cup of tea and a scone (or two) by myself while the house was quiet and peaceful.

The rest of the family was still in bed,  but had they come down anytime soon, they would have been more than welcome to join me.

20110114_123

For now, I was enjoying the solitude.  Peace and quiet.

20110114_120

Nice hot tea with cream and sugar or honey and lemon!

Yummmy blueberry scones with cranberry orange butter.

Eventually, one by one, they made their way down and devoured the scones.

20110114_136

They’re not much for tea, unfortunately for me.  I drink alone around here!

20110114_138

Maybe I should start every weekend morning this way!

             20110114_146

Now I  was able to continue putting the rest of Christmas away!

20110114_147

And not think about it being winter too much!

20110114_151

I didn’t completely eliminate winter out of the house though!  After all spring is still officially two months away.

And just wishing it weren’t winter doesn’t make it so.

Might as well make the most of it!

  2. I think I saw those dishes at Home Goods. If not those exact ones, I saw some like them. I remember because I wanted them. They are so delicate and pretty. LOVE the look of them on the tea table.

I totally agree about using your favorite things. That table is just plain lovely and would chase MY winter blues away too. The lemons in the middle are a perfect touch, too.

So glad you are up and blogging again. And as to your question about writing a book. Goodness no. Who would pay to read my meandering thoughts. LOL

  4. Sheila, I'm another Sheila, and I think we have something in common other than our names. I am in love with those dishes, too! If I had been in Home Goods with you, some of those pretties would have jumped in my basket, too. Oh, those are fresh and pretty. Love the napkins you selected to go with them, too. That table just begs you to sit there and enjoy. Absolutely love this. Thanks so much for sharing...

    Happy Tablescape Thursday to you...

    XO,

    Sheila :-)

As to winter, I live in Florida, and while we've had chilly and some temps, the sun is out now. And it's in the 70's.

  5. Oh, you make me realize I don't take enough time for myself! My time is spent in the bath every day. I need to make scones and sit down and enjoy the peace and quiet. This was such a beautiful and fun post and of course I adore your new cups, saucers and dessert plates. Hope you will be sharing the scone recipe. They look and sound wonderful. Next time, call me!

  6. Sheila, what a gorgeous table! Those dishes ARE wonderful -- love the colors. What really caught my eye were the two low sherbet glasses you're using for lemon slices and jam. SO pretty, and what a great idea to use them that way!

  11. Hi! Your dishes are GORGEOUS! I am so envious we don't have a Home Goods near me. Oh well, I have many other places to look for dishes such as TJMaxx and thrift stores. You have set your table beautifully and those scones look so pretty and good!

  14. Hi Sheila! Marcia told me about your blog full of beautiful table top settings. I would love to come to tea and dine out of your elegant dishes shown in this post. Everything looked simply divine! You must have a closet/room designated just to store all of your wonderful dishes and decorations for those fabulous table settings in the previous posts. I've always wanted a dish pantry like Martha Stewart so that I could store/display all of my china and dishes without ever packing anything away for storage... no such luck yet. Looking forward to following your blog... ideas and inspiration always appreciated.

Thank you for sharing your beautiful tea table with us...this was such a treat! By the way, your blueberry scones look heavenly! I also really enjoyed your pretty winter vignette...I love snowmen!

I also wanted to thank you for stopping by for a visit and leaving me such a sweet note!
